The Lonely Soldier

Source of Inspiration

lonely soldier

The soldier goes to war
with visions of glory,
of honorable purpose,
courage bolstered by
rhetoric. But there
comes a moment in
battle when he realizes
what death really is
and he is terrified.

There is no adventure
to war. In death, there
is no purpose or choice.
Seeing comrades and young
enemies slaughtered leaves
him sickened with disgust
and shock. All of them dying
without ever knowing what
they truly fought to accomplish.
The glory words die with them
leaving nothing but death…nothing
is worth this. How can war ever
bring peace when it leaves a trail
of blood, broken hearts and lies?
