During my crisis-line training, an instructor broke the ice by asking each of us what super power we would choose if we had the opportunity. Without pause, I said “the ability to open hearts and minds to transformative truth.”
As I spoke these words I wondered why a merciful God would not automatically give us this openness. Then I remembered the story of George Richie in Return from Tomorrow. Even though he had met God, the future, and the spiritual world in a near death experience, once he recovered, it took a lifetime before he fully utilized the information.
There must be something valid about the painful process of personal discovery that makes revelation stick.
So, today, I will work on opening my own heart and mind.
